Biostyr™ - The compact biofiltration technology

Contrary to other biofiltration processes, Biostyr™ achieves Total Nitrogen removal in a single stage treatment. Furthermore, the light floatable media bed (consisting of polystyrene beads called Biostyrene™) allows a gravity backwash using treated water: no extra pumps are needed and energy costs are reduced to a minimum.

 

The solids accumulated in the filter must be eliminated regularly. Therefore, periodical backwash is applied using treated water stored above the nozzle deck:

  • Backwash is carried out under gravity using treated water, thus, no extra energy is required.
  • Downward flow expands filter bed and ensures elimination of excess biomass and particles.
